Jana Frank / voice

After working as a dancer for Peter Zadek and Jerome Savary, Jana studied vocal art at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich.
As a concert soloist, she toured through France and Switzerland with several chamber orchestras. From 1993 until 1999 she had close ties with the Berlin Musical Theater, "Theater des Westens".
During this period, Helmut Baumann was the director of the theater; his tenure ended in 1999 with his last production "Nine". Many of her engagements were free productions, such as in Hamburg/Kampnagel, Salzburg/Festspiele, Zürich/Theater an der Winkelwiese, Berlin/Sophiensaele and Cottbus/Europa Biennale Landart and Electronics. With relatives from Buenos Aires, Jana Frank developed an intense passion for tango at a very early age. Holding a deep desire to find tango music literature, she has collected a wealth of material over the years. During a longer stay in Argentina in 1998, she intensively studied the interpretation of the sung tango. After this experience, a tango program of her own became a must! Jana Frank searched for and found the appropriate musicians to establish the "Penúltimo Tango" quartet. With Jana Frank's vision, she has developed a program and she will guide you on your journey through the world of tango.

Gerhard Schiewe / tango accordion

The versatile musician arranges all the compositions of the quartet "Penultimo Tango" himself.

He studied music at the Hohner conservatory in Trossingen, where students are taught to play the accordion exclusively.

When playing the accordion, Gerhard Schiewe pulls out all the stops.

This enables him to do a vast variety of musical projects such as solo concerts, chamber music and cabaret programs. Today, he is very well known on the Jazz, Klezmer and Gypsy Swing Scene.

The sung tango is what makes working with the "Penultimo Tango" quartet an especially attractive challenge for him.

Florentin Duna / violin

Having studied the violin in the Music High School "George Enescu" in Bucharest, Florentin Duna was well prepared for a career as a musician.

Consequently, he continued his studies at the Musical Academy there, and improved his violin playing at the State Conservatory in Stuttgart and Trossingen with Prof. Werner Keltsch, Prof. Federico Agostini and other teachers.

He is currently working as a dozent of jazz violin at the Berlin Jazz School.

When compiling his jazz repertoire, he came in touch with the complex tango compositions of Astor Piazzolla and immediately felt a great affinity for this special kind of music.

He was awarded the first price in the 2001 Astor Piazolla Competition in Castelfidardo, Italy, with the tango quintet "Zero Hour".

Andreas Hirtler / contrabass

With growing enthusiasm, he is working his way through the world of "Tango argentino"

His musical studies with Bela Scedlac in Bern were focused on jazz and improvisation.

Afterwards, he performed many concerts in South Germany, Switzerland and France.

His first tango record filled him with enthusiasm: "Hora Zero" with the Astor Piazzolla Quintet.

Even after 9 years, this record is one of his absolute favorites. Hector Console, the bassist of this group, is his biggest source of inspiration.
